In this new episode of 180ID, we sat down with Sam Brewster, a multidisciplinary creative with a unique ability to come up with simple yet really strong concepts from which he builds gorgeous visual narratives.
We first met Sam through our 9:16 Open Call, to which he responded with his thought provoking, beautifully shot "Domestication":
“I wanted to bring mundane private behavior into public spaces in order to examine conditioned domestic routines. By showing distinctive activities outside of their usual surroundings, we bring to light how absurd human behavior can be when taken out of context.”
After that, Sam joined us at 180 Creative Lab at Aveiro Arts House, where he developed a film informed by Portugal’s national history and the story of this house as a center for resistance, Sam’s film is an exploration into the idea of public oppression and its mundanity, of living a constrained conformed life in the light, and only feeling free to truly emote in the shadows.
In between filming in Aveiro, Sam told us more about his work and creative journey.
