Then you're in luck because Director ID profiles the best directors working in music videos today. Through 10-minute episodes, Director ID shows music video directors telling all about their process.
DIRECTOR ID SABRINA NICHOLS
Sabrina Nichols is a visual artist who works with animation to build the worlds she portrays in her music videos. Nichols has directed music videos for bands such as The Smile or Car Seat Headrest.
DIRECTOR ID PENNACKY
With a major focus on artists from Singapore, Indonesia and Korea, Pennachy makes music videos for bands like Yellow Days, Sunset Rollercoaster or Balming Tiger. The director tells us the stories behind his videos as he takes us on a journey through Europe.
DIRECTOR ID JAMIE WHITBY
Jamie Whitby uses unusual camera and editing techniques to invoke surreal worlds with highly conceptual approaches. London-based Whitby has directed music videos for artists such as Glass Animals or Yellow Days.
DIRECTOR ID ADAM WILLIS
Adam Willis says that his obsession with MTV as a child was a fundamental basis of his filmmaking education. Traveling between Texas and Los Angeles, Willis' work is marked by the nostalgic and the bizarre, seeking to portray the unusual and warm off-kilter side of comedy through various mediums. Before embarking on his solo career, he co-founded the filmmaking collective, The General Assembly.
DIRECTOR ID CLAES NORDWALL
Claes Nordwall has become known for his work on music videos for artists such as Parquet Courts and Steve Gunn. Claes is driven by a deep interest in nature, consciousness and psychology. Hailing from Sweden and based in London, Claes trajectory led him to longer form narrative film, with music videos serving as his right of passage into managing bigger productions and crews.
DIRECTOR ID MAXIM KELLY
A trip to India was the starting point for Maxim Kelly to direct, shoot and edit his first music video for a friend's band. For Maxim, the concept is everything. The director searches for the essence of the music and the artist and develops the video from there. Kelly has directed music videos for The Murder Capital, Black Midi, among others.
DIRECTOR ID KASPER HÄGGSTRØM
Kasper Häggstrøm is a Norwegian director who has directed music videos for artists such as Radiohead or Kelly Lee Owens. His films are somewhere between comical short films and art pieces, in an approach that always tries to play with the viewer.
Director ID profiles the best directors working in music videos today
In each episode, we invite directors to be a part of the process in a creative collaboration where the director has full control over how they choose to record their interview. The result is always different and unexpected. Each episode is an expression of individuality and the whole series a document of a generation of filmmakers in the digital age.
